Jazz re:freshed Presents: Kaidi's 5ive

Jazz re:freshed is proud to present the second release from their Jazz re:freshed 5ives series. To follow up the success of the first Jazz re:freshed 5ive release by drummer Richard Spaven, Jazz re:freshed called on the genius that is Kaidi Tatham.

If there is one artist that has truly become synonymous with Jazz re:freshed over the years, it is Keyboardist/Producer/Multi-Instrumentalist Kaidi Tatham - the energy, the skill, the showmanship, the innovation, the genius. Kaidi connects with an audience like no other, through his entrancing music and his infectious personality, especially when he's performing at Jazz re:freshed, his spiritual home.

The ubiquitous vibe behind the West London/broken beats/nu-jazz scene as a core member of Bugz In The Attic, Kaidi Tatham has added his unique flavour to many a club anthem and put the spirit of jazz right at its heart. Kaidi's 5ive is a further example of how jazz is still a relevant, progressive modern music genre which continues the lineage of jazz, using it with his own twisted funk, boogie and electronica.

Kaidi's 5ive:

01. Dyno
02. To My Surprise
03. Don't Hide Your Love
04. For All Love In Time
05. Organic Juggernaut

AppleJac Presents: Playin Favorites - Free Download

We're no strangers to AppleJac, one of ATL's busiest DJ/Producers. When he's not keeping dance floors jumpin' in San Fran or D.C., he's in ATL spinning, producing and remixing various projects for a who's who of talented friends.

Today marks the release of AppleJac's debut producer project Playin' Favorites EP. Playin' Favorites stems from Applejac's love of music and his never ending quest for “diggin in the crates” to find classic and rare records. The talented Atlanta native has the innate ability to weave different genres of music together, and create a sound that is simultaneously nostalgic, yet progressive.

“It is my hope that with the release of ‘Playin’ Favorites’, I can expose the masses to my super talented friends and also educate the younger fans by putting a new twist on these classic tunes.”

The Playin' Favorites EP finds DJ AppleJac carefully selecting each song and the artists he wants to feature. Not only did he select classic songs to cover but he invited some of the most talented voices, known and up and coming, in the independent soul music scene today (The Baldhead Queen, Tonya Dyson, Reggie B, Ramona, Rogiers, Carmen Rodgers, Jessica Johnson) to cover the songs. You'll hear exquisite covers of classic songs by the Beatles, Dionne Warwick, Steve Arrington and Jefferson Airplane as well as a beautiful pairing between Carmen Rodgers and Little Dragon's hauntingly beautiful Twice. To round out the EP, AppleJac features the divine spoken word of Poet/Singer/Author The Baldhead Queen.

The digital version is available for FREE DOWNLOAD below, and the CD version is available at Moods Music in Atlanta, and features two bonus cuts not available on the digital copy.

New Maya Azucena Album "Cry Love" Available Now On iTunes

Cry Love is the artistic statement that Maya Azucena has sought to make since day one. The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter's impressive versatility unfolds over ten original compositions plus a dramatic interpretation of "Little Ghetto Boy." Executive-produced with her longtime collaborator Christian Ver Halen, and released on her new imprint label, Azucena Songs, Cry Love represents a powerful journey that distills the universal themes of love, survival, and hope into 50 unforgettable minutes.

An anthem for justice, the title track, produced by Pete Miser, is steeped in Maya's concern for humankind and constitutes the album's core concept. Her desire to inspire, empower, and embolden listeners saturates both the edgy groove of "Warriors" and the sanguine sway of "Near," as well as her gripping duet with distinguished singer/pianist Chris Rob on the Donny Hathaway classic, "Little Ghetto Boy." Taking a page from Maya's own life, "The Half" is a harrowing tale propelled by no less a rock legend than guitarist Vernon Reid. Emerging triumphant from near tragedy, she invites dancehall icon iNi Kamoze aboard for a victory lap on "My Back's Not Up Against the Wall" while the glistening, acoustic qualities of "Belong to the Sun" furnish another standout cut. The songs are all unified by a remarkable depth and stunning musicality.

Threaded throughout Cry Love is Maya Azucena's belief that music is a tool for healing and activism.
